County Unemployment Inches Up In May

The majority of Tennessee counties recorded unemployment rates below 5% in May 2021, according to new data from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Forty counties experienced a drop in unemployment during May, while rates remained the same in 18 counties. Thirty-seven counties did see some increase in unemployment for the month.
At 2.7%, Moore and Williamson counties continued to have the lowest unemployment in the state.
In Warren Co. the rate increased 0.4 percent from 5.0 percent in April to 5.4 percent in May. One year ago the rate was 14.9 percent in May 2020. In White Co. it was 4.3 percent, unchanged from April to May. In May 2020 it was 9.6 percent. In Van Buren Co. it was 5.3 percent in May, down 0.3 percent from April In May 2020 it was 11.2 percent.
Statewide unemployment held steady in May and remained unchanged from April?s seasonally adjusted rate of 5%.
Nationally, unemployment dropped 0.3 percent to 5.8%.
