The wait to start the 2021 football season continues as this Friday night’s season opener with White Co., as well as next Friday night’s game at Memphis Ridgeway, has been cancelled due to the influx of COVID-19 cases and multiple symptomatic cases among the team. That’s according to the Warren Co. Pioneer Football Facebook page. Coach Matt Turner said that the football program is shut down for a period of 10 days and expected to resume on Labor Day Sept. 6. The Pioneers hope to start the season Sept. 10 when they host Mt. Juliet. Turner said they made the decision to prevent the spread of the virus and ultimately the safety of the students athletes and opponents. He added when practice resumes they will do temperature checks and players must bring their own water. Locker rooms and equipment will be disinfected. Turner urged student athletes to be vigilant and follow all recommendations during the school day.
Turner concluded that it was not an easy decision to come to but the safety and well being of our children is the first priority.
