A two car accident Saturday evening on Highway 70S in Cannon Co. near the Jehovah’s Witness church sent four to the hospital with one arrested.
According to Trooper Andrew Coppinger of the Tennessee Highway Patrol a Ford F-150, driven by 48 year old Dave Byars of McMinnville was traveling westbound on Highway 70S. Witnesses told Coppinger that Byars was all over the road and cross the center line hitting the front end of a blue Infinity, driven by 21 year old Phillip Hamilton of Murfreesboro. Hamilton was flown by Lifeforce to Vanderbilt Hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries. Byars, along with his passengers, 48 year old Angela Scott and his six year old son David were taken by EMS to Ascension St. Thomas Stones River Hospital in Cannon Co.
When Cannon Co. Sheriffs deputies arrived on the scene witnesses told them that after the wreck happened Byars went to the woods with a bag. Deputies retrieved the bag and confiscated a firearm. While at the hospital Byars was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He also has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
Coppinger said other charges are pending and the investigation continues.
