Stop Sign Discussed For Franklin And Roosevelt Streets

During the Safety Committee meeting they discussed a letter request for a stop sign to be installed at the location on Franklin and Roosevelt Streets. McMinnville Police Chief Nichole Mosley told the committee that a study was done on whether to install a sign there. In 2020 during a six day period a total of 1,694 vehicles traveled the street. The speed limit on the road is 30 miles per hour and Mosley said speed has not been an issue an no accidents or crashes have occurred. In 2021 a total of 6,121 vehicles traveled the road. Mosley said even though the average speed on the road is 18 miles per hour she was not opposed to putting up a stop sign.
It will be brought to the full board next meeting.
In other business, the board passed unanimously a resolution to ratify the terms and conditions with Ben Lomand Connect for access to the public wi-fi in the downtown area. Alderman Rachel Kirby raised a question about the aesthetics of the equipment taking away from the historical look of downtown. Kirby asked if it could be moved but City IT Manager Scotty Lawson told the board that it was placed there in direct line of sight away from obstructions to get maximum coverage. A ribbon cutting will be held Tuesday July 20 at City Hall.
